If your goal is to become a professional pilot ECU’s specialist Bachelor of Aviation degree is the ideal pathway. This course can be taken concurrently with ECU’s Graduate Diploma in Flying allowing you to achieve both your undergraduate degree and your Commercial Pilots License in about three years. For students interested in non-flying careers ECU also offers the Bachelor of Science (Aviation).

The Western Australia Police Academy, Joondalup was officially opened on 15 February 2002. Situated adjacent to two major tertiary institutions, (West Coast Institute of Training and Edith Cowan University), the Academy is part of the Joondalup Learning Precinct. Although maintaining a separate identity, the Academy shares facilities with both institutions and has developed mutually beneficial partnerships to develop academic courses that increase the standing of qualifications attained through Academy programs. The development of this alliance will facilitate and foster a learning environment.

The jazz program at WAAPA has long been recognised as one of the strongest jazz courses in the southern hemisphere, producing many nationally and internationally renowned jazz musicians. The strength of the course lies in the focus on performance outcomes, hence all educational units are based around developing these skills. Students have the option of pursuing a performance or arranging stream in third year, culminating in a professional recital at the end of the year and throughout the year all students participate in many varied ensembles, from big bands to jazz trios and everything in between. The jazz course has a visiting artist program that is second to none, and prides itself on the depth of professional knowledge that is on offer to students year round.

The Associate Degree in Criminology and Justice adopts a contemporary approach to the education of practitioners in the areas of police and corrections. Students will develop an understanding of the theory and research that informs policing practice and offender management. They will also acquire skills in the practical application of policing and offender management. The course links closely with the WA Police Academy and the Corrective Services Training Academy, giving students the opportunity to participate in relevant practical training. Edith Dircksey Cowan, OBE, JP, was the first woman member of an Australian Parliament, elected to the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia as a member for West Perth 1921-1924. Edith, her husband James and their family resided at 71 Malcolm Street from 1919 for approximately 20 years. It was was an unpretentious, traditional home with very few modern appliances, despite Edith Cowan's advocacy for women's liberation. Edith Cowan University purchased the house in 1991 and it was reconstructed on the site with the assistance of the West Coast TAFE. The reconstructed house was opened on 2nd November 1997 by Emeritus Proffessor Geoffrey Bolton, AO. It is now used by the Peter Cowan Writers' Centre, a non-profit organisation which strives to be supportive of new writers.
