Description

Tableau Vivant and the Unobserved, a digital video installation by Nicola Kaye and Stephen Terry was the culmination of their year-long research for the inaugural James Sykes Battye Creative Fellowship, which enabled the artists’ unlimited access to the collections of Western Australian History. The interactive installation was displayed in the State Library of Western Australia’s (SLWA) ground floor gallery and projected onto the windows of the Battye Library Research Space.

Tableau Vivant and the Unobserved visually questions how history is made, commemorated and forgotten. Through digital art installation, Nicola Kaye and Stephen Terry expose the unobserved and manipulate our perception of the past. Their work juxtaposes archival and contemporary imagery to create an experience for the visitor where unobserved lives from the archive collide with the contemporary world.

Additional Information

Tableau Vivant and the Unobserved was exhibited at the State Library of Western Australia from 4 April to 12 May 2017.
