Abstract

The use of mathematics manipulatives, the types that are most in use, the reasons for the use of the same and their implications are discussed. Potential gains of using mathematics manipulative materials in appropriate and in a systematic manner needs to be explained to the teacher and they should be given appropriate professional development within the overall context of the student's learning of mathematics.
