Abstract
This paper discusses the effective education of external online students, concerning business process and principles, using an enterprise resource planning application as a cognitive tool. The enterprise resource planning application enables students to establish meaningful workflows and processes for finance, sales, purchasing, inventory and production functions. The teachings explain a number of core business principles and develop students understanding of how the processes might vary between organisations in differing industries and environmental settings. The assessments require students to vary the setup of the application to meet a range of business requirements that are contextualised in these different settings. Students demonstrate sound educational outcomes and have provided very positive feedback concerning the learning environment.
