Abstract

We propose an incoherent optical correlator for header recognition in optical packet-switched networks, employing two arrayed waveguide grating and waveguide delay lines. The operation is demonstrated experimentally for 4-bit patterns at 2.5 Gb/s. Results show that the proposed optical correlator generates autocorrelation and cross-correlation signals that can easily be recognized using a simple threshold detector.
