Abstract
The Logistics industry is undergoing radical transformation as retail organisations focus on core competencies, outsource many of their logistics operations and explore online channels. Ongoing research into this transformation process has identified a new breed of "e-fulfilment" providers with a specific set of capabilities. These capabilities have been analysed over two years and support a staged e-business transformation model and a discernible movement towards increased knowledge-based capabilities. The results suggest that there will be two specific routes to transformation and therefore industry players will be forced to align their e-business strategies along one of these distinct transformation paths.
