Abstract
This chapter shows how intertwined the notion of place and the tourist experience are. Themes highlighted include: power and the empowerment of destination community residents; and collaboration and cooperation between stakeholders in tourism. It also briefly highlights issues in relation to volunteer, sex, and heritage tourism that merit additional research from the perspective of destination communities.
