Abstract
The fundamental role that health information plays in the development of effective health policies and programs, in the coordination of treatment and care, and in the empowerment of consumers (AIHW 2002) applies to the Australian population as a whole, and to specific subpopulations, such as Australia's Indigenous peoples-Aboriginal people and Torres Strait Islanders
