Abstract

Bruce Bonyhady’s (2016) paper offers a clear and informative outline of the Australian National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). As an economist with expertise in funds management and insurance, as well as government, Bonyhady is well placed to present economic arguments for the NDIS. As a social work and disability studies academic, who has arrived relatively recently in Australia from the United Kingdom, my aim is to situate Bonyhady s paper within the context of developments in individualised funding in the United Kingdom, and to reflect on similar initiatives internationally.
