Abstract

As Prime Minister of Australia, John Howard is the second longest serving prime minister in the history of federation. His unremarkable personality often has puzzled observers who have found his ordinariness unusual in one so successful. But, as Howard biographer Peter van Onselen discovered, John Howard is not so ordinary in his achievements or his mastery of the political game.
