Abstract
This paper addresses an image processing based technique for reading one-dimensional bar codes; such as the EAN-13 bar code which is used worldwide for marking retail goods. The proposed technique uses a digital camera to acquire an image of the bar code, it then uses an image processing algorithm to locate and subsequently decode the information stored in the bar code label.
