Abstract

This chapter concludes the book through a forward-looking perspective by extensively discussing a number of critical issues and challenges facing China’s hospitality and tourism education. It also provides some forecasts on the future states of hospitality and tourism education in and outside China. Ten broad issues are discussed. These issues are enrolment scales and changes, curriculum, teachers, students, internationalisation, digitisation, changes of learning environment, the status of tourism education in China, research, and institutional sustainability. The COVID-19 pandemic has been regarded as a significant shock factor to change the equilibrium of the hospitality and tourism education in China and its connections to and interactions with the education systems outside China. A new landscape of global tourism education with China as an even more significant player is expected in the future.
