White, T. (2019). Instant cash. Australia: Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

Abstract

As part of the 'Postcards from WAAPA staff' event, Tim White performed a solo multi-percussion performance of 'Instant Cash', a pioneering semi-improvised work composed by the avant-garde musician Carter Thomas for found instruments.

'Instant Cash' is a work from the 'percussion theatre' genre, and it eschews the use of mallets, sticks, set pitches, traditional instruments, and traditional notation. Tim's presentation of the work created new knowledge and demonstrated new performance practices through the use of innovative presentation and unexpected instrumentation, including the use of rice bowls, coins, plates, cups, superball skewers and a soccer ball.

Additional Information

Performed at Richard Gill Auditorium, Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Mount Lawley, Western Australia on 19 March 2019.
