WAAPA Gospel Choir arrangements for Faith & Freedom: The music of George Michael with the Perth Symphony Orchestra
Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA)
George Michael: upturned collar, reflective aviator shades, trimmed beard, cross earring. He is the man with the voice who brought soul to the pop world.
Perth Symphony Orchestra loves to re-work the music of the world’s most talented artists, bringing a new orchestral sound to massive hits. In this unique evening celebrating the incredible body of work by George Michael (spanning both his days as front man of Wham! to his incredible solo career) PSO collaborates with some of WA’s leading composers and arrangers to bring the magic of PSO’s orchestral sound to George’s songs.
The works of George Michael have been reimagined with the aim of taking the audience on a remarkable journey of emotions that shed a new light on some of the best-loved songs from Faith to Careless Whisper, Freedom to I’m Your Man.
The concert is performed by the Perth Symphony strings, drums and percussion and features the remarkable WAAPA Gospel Choir led by Matt Allen, Head of Contemporary Voice at WAAPA. The evening showcases WA’s incredible talent brought together for the first time in concert. Joining Matt will be members of the Gospel Choir for duets that saw George perform with the likes of Aretha Franklin and Elton John – be prepared for voices that will blow you away.
There are few artists who can boast more than 100 million in sales but George Michael is in that elite alumni. George, who would have celebrated his 54th birthday on June 25th, achieved remarkable things in his lifetime, and this concert aims to celebrate the joy his music brought to millions around the world. Come and party with us!
