ECU hosted the 1999 International Symposium on Biomechanics in Sports. The Swimming and Acrobatics proceedings are also available on Research Online. Sport science remains an important research area at ECU, as noted by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Australian Centre for Research into Injury in Sport and its Prevention (ACRISP) Research Leader Professor Caroline Finch "ECU has a strong focus on injury and health surveillance, bone health, women's sport and preventive medicine. Our findings not only benefit elite athletes but everybody who plays sport."
