Abstract

This poem reflects on the life of peripatetic botanical illustrator Marianne North (1830-1890) who travelled to Southwest Australia in 1880.

Author Biography

John Charles Ryan is Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Arts and Social Sciences at Southern Cross University. His most recent edited book is Australian Wetland Cultures: Swamps and the Environmental Crisis (2019, Lexington Books, with Li Chen). His poetry collection Seeing Trees: A Poetic Arboretum, co-authored with Glen Phillips, is forthcoming with Pinyon Publishing in the US. In 2020, he will be Writer-in-Residence at Oak Spring Garden Foundation in Virginia (www.osgf.org) and Visiting Scholar at University of 17 Agustus 1945 (UNTAG) in Surabaya, Indonesia.
