Additional Information

The honours thesis aims to review qualitative studies of the personal experiences of postpartum anxiety in women in Australia to decipher the dominant, pervasive societal gender beliefs and views that affect women after having a baby. To achieve this, the research will be guided by a socio-ecological model and critical feminist theory. A qualitative systematic review method incorporating an interpretivist ontological paradigm is suggested to explore Australian qualitative studies between 2010 and 2025. The research articles will be purposefully selected from Australian literature to reflect women’s experiences of PNA. Findings sections of the selected articles will be manually coded via a qualitative content analysis approach. The paper's insights will hopefully encourage a multi-systems approach in future research to efficiently inform more gender-equal social policies, postnatal clinical interventions in Australia, and make recommendations for the social work profession in postnatal mental health.
