Abstract
The intelligence analyst plays a critical role in the decision processes effecting national security and law enforcement. The purpose of this research proposal is to provide sufficient evidence to support the undertaking of a study into the hypothetical construct of Professional Intelligence Judgement Artistry (PIJA). PIJA has been proposed as a possible model through which the various internal and external influences on intelligence analyst decision making may be mapped and understood. The complexity of real world intelligence operations is such that a positivist approach to this problem is unlikely to generate useful outcomes it is therefore proposed to utilise a hermeneutic methodology in line with the interpretative requirement of the research problem.
