Abstract

Diverse driving forces influence policing efforts in providing effective service delivery. These include external forces such as public expectations for traditional services and government's push towards new public management practices, and internal forces including legacy management practices and inappropriate asset holdings. While private companies have used information systems and information technology to address successfully similar influences, the same success has not been evident in the policing environment. Moves towards integrating a cyber-centric management style with traditional management practices will result in information technology positively assisting in addressing such forces and facilitating the provision of traditional services within a contemporary context.
