Abstract

The School of Computer and Information Science at Edith Cowan University (ECU). Perth, Australia, has a reputation for educating highly employable computer scientists and software engineers at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. In the state of Western Australia, the School attracts the largest student numbers in the area of Computer Science and Information Systems. A key strategy for the School's education programmes incorporates close links with high technology companies, such as Cisco, IBM, Microsoft and Oracle. The new minor in network administration and design is the attempt to combine the undisputable benefits of tertiary education with the strengths of industry-based training. The paper outlines details of the new minor and its benefits to students.
