Abstract

The assets controlled by superannuation funds in Australia are growing. At the same time fund members are assuming greater responsibility in selection of the investment strategy the funds will follow and may shortly be obliged to make a choice about the fund in which they invest. The way in which Australian employees make these decisions has, however, been a neglected area of research even though the adequacy of their decisions is important not only for the fund members themselves but also for employers and government. The primary purpose of this paper is to raise the profile of this area of research and to report preliminary results of a survey of members of the Superannuation Scheme for Australian Universities (SSAU).
