Abstract
In many small remote Western Australian communities the local school has the best connection to the Internet and is the logical location for a tertiary distance eduction student to go in order to undertake an online unit. The results obtained so far have indicated that while technically the schools have Internet access in reality it is too tenuous and slow to be useable for much beyond simple email.
