Abstract

In 2004 the State Library of Western Australia developed and piloted the Better Beginnings Birth to Three years family literacy program in six communities and local libraries across Western Australia. Since then Better Beginnings has reached more than 150.000 families across the state. Building on the success of Better Beginnings, in 2010 a family literacy program, Read to Me I Love it! was offered to children and their families, in kindergarten and pre-primary. This program was developed and offered to families living in remote Aboriginal communities. Since then, Better Beginnings has piloted three additional programs, targeting different age range and communities.
