Child and family centred care
Abstract
Since the early 1990's Family Centred Care (FCC) has been the prominent model of care in pediatric services globally and considered the best practice in delivering care for children and young people ( Almasri, An and Palisano, 2018). However, it is increasingly recognised that FCC's focus on the partnership between clinicians and parents often results in insufficient consideration of the child and/or young person ( Ford et al., 2018). This can result in children being excluded or disengaged in healthcare decisions and has led to an increased focus on children's rights as active participants in their own healthcare.
