Can you see me? An Australian university moves to emergency synchronous delivery

Abstract

The goal of this chapter is to capture lessons learned from the deployment of emergency remote teaching using synchronous teaching delivery platforms. Drawing on the experience of one Australian university, we examine the emergence of the crisis and response strategies that saw guidance, development resources, and technical solutions deployed with less than a 2-week lead time before full off-campus teaching. Taking into account the pedagogical and technological considerations, we reflect on our approach to adoption through diversifying video platforms and the approach to managing teachers overwhelmed with choice by equipping them with the capacity to determine, deploy, and use the tool that is fit-for-purpose to meet their unique teaching needs. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.
