Abstract

In January 2021 a research team was commissioned to lead a consortium of education and care researchers and practitioners to update Australia’s Approved Learning Framework (ALF), Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). The consortium comprised 34 experts in early childhood education and care (ECEC) and a transdisciplinary advisory team of six wise counsels who gave feedback on all stages of the work. This chapter describes the journey of the consortium leaders and the wider research community of practice across this 15-month research project in gathering the voices of families. Listening to families allowed for their rich insights to inform the EYLF updates, improving the acceptability of the updated EYLF, and highlighting how important it is for policymakers to include families in reform agendas.
