Silence is not golden: How academic nursing and midwifery is failing our Afghan sisters
Abstract
At the end of 2024, international news agencies began reporting that the Taliban government in Afghanistan had banned women from attending institutions providing education and training in nursing and midwifery. There is still no official confirmation of the decision from the Afghan government, but the move is widely reported across a range of reputable sources and is in line with Taliban policy on women’s education and rights more generally.
