Abstract

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death and disability in Australia and worldwide. As medical advancements continue to evolve, cardiac surgery has emerged as an effective treatment option for a wide range of cardiovascular conditions. While these procedures offer significant benefits to patients, they also pose unique challenges and risks that require specialized care. The postoperative period following cardiac surgery is a critical phase during which patients require close monitoring and prompt intervention. The cardiac advance life support course (CALS) was developed in recognition of the need for highly trained health care practitioners.
