Abstract
This chapter considers the changing nature of actor training during the last 30 years. Alongside a consideration of shifting approaches to pedagogy in drama school training, this discussion also reflects on the extent to which places, institutional, environmental, psychological, and mediatized, shape understanding and engagement by today's students in training. In addition, the discussion highlights the importance of space in Western Australia and the need to adopt sensitive and integrated approaches to training practice. The chapter also articulates some of the strategies adopted by the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in response to the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. This chapter features a Zoom conversation between professor, teacher, and practitioner, Anna McNamara and David Shirley, Executive Dean and Professor of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. The discussion explores notions of place and its impact and influence.
