Abstract

Standardisation of all aspects of testing athletes is essential to ensure that comparisons between individual athletes or groups of athletes are fair and to permit accurate evaluation and monitoring of longitudinal development of physical characteristics. Such standardisation should include the time of day, type and set-up of equipment, warm-up and testing procedures, cueing of athletes, and data analysis procedures. Any variation in these procedures will introduce additional error to the test, increasing the magnitude of change required to determine a meaningful change in performance, potentially resulting in incorrect interpretation of any changes in the athlete’s physical status.
