An exploratory investigation into the strengths-based approach in small businesses
Abstract
The strengths-based approach to management is considered to be a paradigm shift from the conventional practice of management. The underlying principles of strengths-based approach emphasise the importance of leveraging people’s strengths, as opposed to fixing weaknesses in conventional practice. In this research paper we aimed to explore whether the strengths-based approach was being practised in small businesses and to understand the suitability of the strengths-based approach in the small business context. An exploratory qualitative methodology was used for this research that involved data collection through face-to-face semi-structured interviews with 30 participants from 17 small businesses in Western Australia.
