Abstract
SGs are changing the way traditional power grids operate from being islands of automation to interconnected systems with a two-way flow of energy and information. They are designed to enhance the efficiency and reliability of power grids using a large number of interconnected electronic devices. Even though the SG has many advantages over the traditional power grid, heterogeneity of devices and standards introduces cyber security issues in the SG which can have adverse impact on grid operations. The answer to the problems faced by conventional security systems lie in natural phenomena. In this chapter, the security issues in the SG are elaborated, and the various nature inspired defence techniques applied for cyber security of the SG are discussed.
