Abstract
As the proportion of the population aged 65 years and older increases so will the impact of alcohol, smoking and illicit drug use in this demographic. The need for standardised screening measures that can be used in the primary health care context and the introduction of brief interventions for older people at risk of developing alcohol related harm is clear.
