Weight bias and stigma...... How do we really feel about the obese patient?
Abstract
Obesity is an increasingly common condition in patients presenting to stomal therapy clinics in Australia and overseas. As nurses we have a key role in assisting patients to adjust to their stoma and improve their quality of life. Unfortunately underlying weight bias may adversely affect these nurse / patient relationships and negatively impact on the patient's ability to adjust to having a stoma.
