A science 'show and do': Teacher and technician training - down under
Abstract
important role in the teaching and learning process.This creates a challenge for some teachers whoseown training may not have involved the skills andconfidence to deliver some of these activities.University science departments, in liaison with localprimary and secondary school teachers, can providemeaningful practical science professionaldevelopment in this area. The opportunity forteachers and technicians to spend several hoursengaged in hands-on practical work alongsideacademics and, as importantly, their peers, has beenwelcomed in Western Australia (WA) for severalyears. After initial courses in chemistry practicalwork, the sessions have, by request, expanded intothe other sciences, including Aboriginal science.
