The space between

Abstract

This practice-led research investigated the synergies and differences between operatic vocal performance practice and instrumental jazz improvisation. The combination of these two art forms is extremely rare and has generally not resulted in the discovery of a collaborative space between the two. In this research, an extensive workshop period was undertaken where compositions were crafted and performance practices developed, to enable a new musical language to develop. These were then refined within performances and discussions between all artistic contributors.
