Abstract
This practice-led research investigated the synergies and differences between operatic vocal performance practice and instrumental jazz improvisation. The combination of these two art forms is extremely rare and has generally not resulted in the discovery of a collaborative space between the two. In this research, an extensive workshop period was undertaken where compositions were crafted and performance practices developed, to enable a new musical language to develop. These were then refined within performances and discussions between all artistic contributors.
Additional Information
The work comprised seven performances from 13 September 2018 to 23 September 2018 at the Melbourne Arts Centre and followed a residency at the Fairfax Studio.
