Abstract

Executive Functions (EFs) such as cognitive flexibility, working memory and inhibition regulate cognition in ways that support success in school and life. Although the interest in children’s EFs is steadily increasing, measuring EFs and their interrelations remains a challenge. The problem with most of the existing EF measurement tools is that they are out-dated, not child-friendly and not ecologically valid. Furthermore, most measurement tools are designed for clinical use and therefore accessibility to the broader public like schools is limited. This paper introduces a new way of supporting EFs in children through interactive games that aim to measure executive functions in an engaging, valid and child-friendly way. The EF games will be integrated into Cinglevue’s Virtuoso enterprise learning and instructional support platform to assist teachers in developing appropriate learning interventions for students.
