Defying gravity: Steve Reich under the stars
Abstract
The music of legendary American composer Steve Reich comes to life as WAAPA's award· winning percussion ensemble Defying Gravity performs his classics Six Marimbas and Music for Pieces of Wood.
Considered one of America's greatest and most influential living composers, Reich pioneered minimalism in the 1960s with music that thrives on pattern, pulse and melody, and remains a giant on the contemporary music scene.
Defying Gravity will be joined by master musician Joshua Webster (WA), the sublime vocals of Pippa Lester (WA), and acclaimed WA/Indian composer and performer Tao lssaro for this performance in FAC's enchanting Inner Courtyard.
