Copyright
Abstract
Copyright is a legal concept that describes the ownership of intellectual property rights relating to original ideas and works. Copyright protection is a global concept; however, the application and detail of copyright legislation varies by jurisdiction. In the sport industry, copyright can be contentious, with debates as to whether live sport events qualify for copyright protection. It is critical for sport organisations, individual athletes, commercial partners, and broadcasters to understand the nuances of intellectual property and copyright laws to ensure their property is protected and to avoid breaching any legislation.
