Epidemiology and prevention of sports injuries
Abstract
This article introduces sports injury epidemiology and the impact of injury on participants across the lifespan. Over the next decade, attention toward socio-ecological contributory factors is expected to grow together with improved design of strategies for implementation and evaluation of prevention measures. Despite injuries, sport and physical recreation is important for healthy communities, having an overall positive influence. Effective injury prevention solutions are available, and investment in development and implementation could reduce injury costs further.
