Abstract
The mining industry, historically significant and playing a pivotal role in the global economy, has consistently led the way in adopting technological innovations. Recent years have witnessed the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), igniting a revolution within the mining sector and ushering in a new era characterized by enhanced efficiency, safety, health, environmental responsibility, and sustainability. This chapter embarks on an extensive exploration of AI’s evolution within the mining industry, delving into its historical origins, investigating diverse applications, addressing ethical considerations, and envisioning the industry’s future trajectory. At the heart of this exploration lies the concept of AI, allowing us to delve into its core components, including machine learning and deep learning. Furthermore, we emphasize AI’s role as a transformative force within the mining sector. AI’s ability to process vast volumes of data, optimize processes, and make intelligent decisions have fundamentally reshaped mining practices, paving the way for unprecedented advancements.
