Abstract
Organizations worldwide are increasingly embracing sustainability initiatives to reduce their environmental impact, with employee commuting behavior and personal vehicle usage emerging as crucial areas of concern. This case study investigates the commuting patterns and willingness to adopt electric vehicles (EVs) among employees of the IKEA Perth store, a major furniture retailer committed to sustainability. Through a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis and qualitative insights, the study explores the factors influencing sustainable transportation choices and proposes a comprehensive conceptual model to promote EV adoption. The findings reveal that while a significant portion of employees are open to transitioning to EVs, barriers such as upfront costs, range anxiety, and limited charging infrastructure hinder widespread adoption. To address these challenges, the Corporate Sustainable Transportation Enabler Model (CoSTEM) is introduced, encompassing strategies for workplace charging stations, monetary incentives, organizational fleet transition, systematic perception management, long-term comprehensive support, and continuous improvement. The proposed model aims to facilitate the adoption of EVs among employees and customers, contributing to reduced energy consumption, lowered carbon emissions, and alignment with the company's sustainability mission. By implementing the CoSTEM strategies and fostering collaborations with stakeholders, organizations can pave the way for a more sustainable future in transportation while enhancing employee well-being and environmental consciousness.
