Building Bridges of International Composer-Performer Collaboration
Abstract
The overall purpose of this paper is to reintroduce my music to the contemporary music environment of Western Australia after a decade long period of activities in Europe, as well as to point out the key factors that shape the compositional approach. Below, the fundamental ideas behind my creative method arc outlined and illustrated with examples of several of my most significant and successful collaborations with some of Europe's leading interpreters of new music. The works and the circumstances in which they emerged are described in order to emphasize the inseparability of the collaboration factor from the process of composing. There arc certain interdependencies between working closely with specific musicians and generating the musical material, which I present through brief descriptions of some of the most fruitful and meaningful collaborations over the past decade
