Abstract
Falls and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are continuing to be a significant public concern, requiring a better understanding of their shared risk factors and underpinning mechanisms. While previous, mostly cross-sectional studies, indicate a link between CVD, musculoskeletal health, and falls, their relationships remain poorly understood. This thesis sought to examine the association between clinical/subclinical CVD, musculoskeletal health, injurious falls and fractures. By drawing evidence from multiple publications, including reviews and studies from a prospective cohort, this thesis reports associations between CVD, musculoskeletal outcomes, and falls. The findings of the thesis provide important considerations when designing future fall prevention programs.
